Zorbing

The classes have started again. I mean that's OK. Most of them seem pretty interesting for the time being and it's nice to learn something new.

Classes obviously cannot possibly be a reason for the good stuff in life to keep on happening. The last weekend we went for zorbing..
If you don't know what that is, don't worry, practically nobody does. As always use Google / Wikipedia combination to retrieve required information.

The guys claim(their webpage does) they have the only track in Europe featuring a turn. That's supposed to be exciting. In reality the track is about 120m long, but that results only in a couple of seconds. Regardless of it's shortness it's definetly a must-try.

I liked Aerotrip way more. You just keep on turning, turning, turning and turning.. Then you get a little bit dizzy and continue turning.. It can be a challenge if you try to push it by yourself since you never know in which direction you are gonna turn ( left, right, down ? ) the next turn.

I think it would be interesting to try to do it with some home made stuff. ( but not in anytime now, so you don't need to start worrying just yet)

In other news, the uwc site has gotten some rework. Defintely looks & feels better, so cudos to the people who made it. Annoying is that i am waiting for this confirmation mail for more than 45 minutes and still nothing. I blame my email for this. It seems it started acquiring some lag. I check my mail at 5 pm, empty. 6pm - empty. 7 pm -empty ( yes i know - too much time behind the computer - yes it's sad, get over it.. ) Finally at about 9pm i get the email. It says i recieved it at 4:47 pm ... WTF ?

If it keeps on doing this stuff to me, i might consider switching to Gmail completely..

Contrary to my normal state i have been pretty productive during the last two weeks.
Last year in december i applied for a research project competition, which is sponsored by our faculty. They wanna encourage students to try and do some chemical research so they offer this reward of about 350 € for the best ones.

As I have been doing research throughout the year i had lots of material to write about.
I have been fully aware of approaching deadline, but i just kept on postponing till 10 days before the deadline, when i started thinking that i was too late already and wondered if it made any sense to start at all..
Then some people encouraged me, saying it was for sure possible but i would need to try really hard. So i started writing on tuesday. On day 1 i thought it was impossible..
Then during the next two days i made some respectable progress. After that i didn't feel like doing it anymore, so i haven't done anything till late sunday evening.

Anyways the idea was, i managed to write it within 5 active days, which still impresses me, cause i never thought i could write 50 pages in 5 days.. If i start thinking i was writing EE ( ~ 10-15 pages, i don't remember ) for about 3 weeks in total ( the whole period ) i really become proud of myself. Also EE wasn't on the level at all. On the other hand, i think this one is quite OK.

So this has become a really good starting point for doing additional stuff..
Now i am kind of proud of myself, full of optimism and eagerly awaiting following challanges ..

YAY ! I remembered :D

I am posting, increadible right ?

I think so as well.

There was this feeling deep inside.. saying :" you should post something on the blog.. " and i said yeah sure. When i get home i am posting.. But when I finally arrive home, there are about 5 ppl wanting to chat with me on MSN , and I just feel like reading some of my daily routine stuff, maybe one of those emails i should have answered two weeks ago, check all the computer news sites, reading some random computer rants on slashdot or osnews or digg, or some other tech realted site, checking a couple of blogs, etc..
and then all of a suddenly i say to myself.. i can do it tommorow, or the day after.. or maybe i will post something if somebody else posts something as well..
So i kept delaying and then there was more and more stuff to write about and i said to myself.. well i need loads of time to write it so i will do it later.. later.. later.. but for sure i will do it.. someday..

Luckily i started chatting with Roman on MSN, and while we are chatting i am writing this blog entry. Obviously i like multitasking and don't fell like doing one thing only.

Well, the trip ( hitchiking round EE ) was fabolous. We ( me & a friend ) thougt it would take 3 weeks, but actually we were in Gdansk ( the hole we aspired to reach ) in just 4 days.. 1550 km in 4 days - not bad at all ;). Especially, since we barely moved on the 1st day. We didn't even manage to get out of Slovenia. Knowing how small country Slovenia is, 1st day made us depressed a bit. But on the 2nd day everything started to turn out great.
Among other things we managed to see cities as Budapest ( capital of Hungary ), Prague ( capital of the Czech republic ) and Wienna ( capital of Austria ).
The good thing was we commited ourselves not to visit any museum or art gallery. That decision can really make your holiday enjoyable.
We managed to met almost 40 wonderful people, who were respectful enough to take us onboard. Some of them ( like Hungarians ) didn't understand a thing, so we communicated by poiting different locations on the map.
Others managed to speak only a little bit of english or german - enough to be understood, but yet sound very funny ( read some of Xiangming's quotes and you will understand what i mean;) ). With some of them we had interesting conversations about their country, which you will never learn or read in any encyclopedia or tourist guide.
For example if you go to a pub in Poland and say something bad about John Paul II, they will probably kick you out. They are proud of him that much.
I mean that's cool.
So if you don't like someone, send him to poland and write John Paul sucks on the back of his/ her T-shirt and see the results.
I liked the trip - it was very spontaneous and we got quite lucky on several occasions. It really makes you feel good if someone stops after waiting for an hour.

Oh, yeah ! I forgot !
There was a really nice LAN-party here 2 weeks ago. It lasted all the way till morning.
It reminds me of happy times, when there was a gaming activity.

I was going to write a little bit more.. but i need some sleep in order to be productive tommorow. I need to finish some things..

The big holiday plan.

As a total contrast of this summer to the previous one ( last year i was working more or less ) this summer is gonna be one of the most chilling ones.
Just returned from the seaside last weekend and would be in the midlle of the Alps right now if the weather wouldn't so awfully suck ( yuck ! ).

Now on Saturday my biggest adventure of this is summer is about to begin. Together with a friend of mine we are starting travelling around eastern Europe the good old fashioned way - hitchiking.
We are planning to visit Hungary, Slovakia ( which is a different country than Slovenia, btw.. ), Poland, (maybe Russia) and the Checz Republic. The whole trip should take us no more than 3 weeks, because the day after we are heading towards Gardaland ( something like Disneyland but smaller and less about kids.. ) and then the beacutful adriatic coast again.

I think this should definetly be a blast. We gonna be camping and sleeping at hostels or fellow exUWC-ers. ( actually vast majority hasn't answered my email yet ). Travelling depending on the people on the road, talking to them in english, where they understand none, and we don't understand a shit what they say ( that will be especially true in Hungary, where languages are completely differet).

I am going now, cause i should start thinking about what should i be packing ;)

And for anyone who sucks in geography, here is a picture of our predicted path. Obviously this is a very freeish travelling, so if we really like a certian place we might just hang out and chill out there for the whole 3 weeks.

Small template edit

As you might have noticed i have slightly modified the template.
I think it's damn retarded to have the width of the content set to 660 px.
Practically noone uses 800 x 600 resolution anymore. If anyone does, please stop torchouing yourself and buy yourself a decent 17" screen ( cathode or LCD, depends on your finances ).
Personally i use 21" flast screen at 1600 x 1200, and now i am spoiled and always get depressed when i must work behind 15 inches.. ;)


I also added a picture on the right to see who this blog is supposed to represent.
